Short answer: Against All Odds is Gucci Mane’s 18th studio album, released on October 16, 2026 through 1017 / Atlantic. It has 17 tracks (about 52 minutes), only three guests (Summer Walker, OJ da Juiceman and his son ICE DAVIS) and beats from Zaytoven, J White, Fatboi, Go Grizzly and Jambo. It closes with “CRASH DUMMY”, his April response to the alleged Dallas robbery that federal prosecutors have charged Pooh Shiesty with. It is a lean, old-school Gucci record: fun in short bursts, but it plays it safe.

Gucci announced it on Instagram the same week it came out, with no long rollout and no book attached this time. Here is the context, who made the beats, the songs worth your time, what critics said and our verdict.

Is Against All Odds on vinyl?

Against All Odds has no vinyl or CD in the US yet. If you want Gucci on wax, the essential pick this year is the 20th anniversary deluxe edition of Hard to Kill (2006), reissued as a double LP by Big Cat Records, the label that released his first albums. Why this album matters now

Gucci Mane is one of the founders of trap. His first album, Trap House, came out in 2005 on the Atlanta indie Big Cat Records; he started his 1017 label in 2007; and after leaving prison in May 2016 he had the best commercial run of his career: Everybody Looking and Mr. Davis both reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and “Black Beatles” with Rae Sremmurd went to No. 1 on the Hot 100.

The last few years have been quieter. Breath of Fresh Air (2023) peaked at No. 141 and Episodes (2025) at No. 195, according to the Billboard data on Wikipedia. Episodes came with a memoir, written with Kathy Iandoli, about addiction and mental health. And in January 2026, federal prosecutors say, Gucci was lured to a Dallas recording studio for what he thought was a business meeting and robbed at gunpoint. His own 1017 artist Pooh Shiesty, Shiesty’s father and Big30 are among nine people charged with kidnapping and robbery; all who have been arraigned pleaded not guilty, and the case is still open.

That is the backdrop for the title. Against All Odds is not a confessional album, though. It is Gucci going back to the sound and the attitude that made him, with the people he trusts.

Is “CRASH DUMMY” about Pooh Shiesty?

Gucci never says the name, but nobody missed the target. “CRASH DUMMY” came out on April 10, 2026, two days after a federal magistrate judge in Dallas found probable cause and ordered Shiesty held in jail. Over a Zaytoven beat, Gucci describes walking into what he believed was a business meeting and finding a setup, and he takes shots at Big30 and at Shiesty’s father, both named in the case. Billboard, Complex, Okayplayer and The Fader all read it as a Shiesty diss. The official audio has passed 2.5 million views on YouTube.

It closes the album as track 16, right before the closing “1017”, named after his label. Ratings Game Music calls it essential listening for the context, even if it is not the best song here, and notes that Gucci sounds more blindsided than furious. If you came to the album hoping for a full, detailed account of what happened in Dallas, this is as close as it gets.

Who produced Against All Odds?

The label’s release notes say Gucci “reunited” with J White, Fatboi, Go Grizzly, Jambo and Zaytoven. Track-by-track credits are not published in one place yet, but a few are clear:

Ratings Game Music describes the sound as piano-driven trap with punchy drums and an old-school atmosphere; one track, they say, sounds like 2009. That is the point: this is the Zaytoven-era formula, updated with today’s heavier low end.

Is Against All Odds good? What the critics say

On Album of the Year, user ratings sat at 59/100 a few days after release. Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and the other big outlets had not reviewed it at the time of writing. Billboard 200 numbers for its first week were not out yet either: the chart covering release week is published at the end of October.

A producer’s take

From the beatmaker’s chair, the most interesting thing about Against All Odds is how little it chases current trends. The Zaytoven records are built the way he has always built them: a melody played, not sampled, on piano or organ, with a few bell or synth layers, trap hi-hats and a heavy 808 that follows the bass line. That is a lesson worth taking if you make trap: the keys carry the emotion, the drums stay simple, and the space in the middle is for the voice.

The contrast with “Last night in ATL” is useful too. Put a polished R&B production next to raw piano trap and you hear why a rapper’s sound depends so much on one producer: the Zaytoven tracks feel like Gucci; the crossover track feels like a feature on someone else’s record. If you want to sketch keys-first trap on hardware, our guide to the best Akai MPC covers the gear, and our vinyl sampling guide is the other side of the coin.

Verdict

Against All Odds is a solid, unambitious Gucci Mane album. The best moments (“Yall make me sick”, “She’s so fine”, “Lambo pass by”) are pure, confident East Atlanta trap with Zaytoven at the keys. The weak spots are the same ones critics keep pointing to: familiar topics, simple flows and a middle stretch where songs blur together. And given what happened in Dallas in January, “CRASH DUMMY” is the only song that really opens up.
