Larry June “Who Coppin” Review: Tracklist, Features & Verdict

The king of healthy hustle rap returns with his highest-charting album yet: 16 songs of jazzy West Coast funk, fresh orange juice and passive income. Smooth, warm and made for the windows down.

Nobody in rap sounds as relaxed as Larry June, and nobody is this busy while sounding this relaxed. Five months after Spiral Staircases with Curren$y and The Alchemist, and a few months after Until Night Comes with Cardo, the San Francisco rapper released his new solo album Who Coppin on July 17, 2026, through his own label The Freeminded Records and EMPIRE.

It’s 16 songs and 49 minutes of what Larry does best: smooth West Coast funk, soul and jazz samples, and bars about getting up early, investing, eating well and living on your own terms. And it became his highest-charting album yet, reaching No. 29 on the Billboard 200.

Who is Larry June?

Larry June, real name Leonard Eugene Hendricks III, was born in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point, grew up between Atlanta and the Bay, and went to high school in Vallejo. After a short and frustrating deal with Warner Records, he built everything independently with The Freeminded.

His lane is unique. Instead of street stories, he raps about passive income, healthy habits, fresh orange juice, real estate and self-discipline, always with his famous ad-libs (“Good job, Larry!”). That formula carried Spaceships on the Blade (2022) and The Great Escape with The Alchemist (2023) to the Billboard top 40, and Who Coppin goes even higher.

The rollout

The title track “Who Coppin” came out as a single back in January 2026. In the summer Larry followed it with “The Machinist” (June 7) and “Organic Motion” (June 29), the collaboration with his longtime DJ and producer DJ.Fresh, and a video for “The Smooth Kind”. He announced the album on July 7, just ten days before release. No big campaign, just steady drops, which is very Larry June.

The sound: jazz, soul and lowriders

Who Coppin sounds like a Sunday cruise down the coast. The beats are built on jazzy loops, soulful keys, strings and horns, with a lot of live instrumentation and a clear G-funk influence. Critics describe it as retro, gleaming and perfect for driving with the windows down.

• “Organic Motion”: DJ.Fresh adds record scratches that give it an old-school, nostalgic texture.
• “Organically Slidin’”: swirling flute loops made for cruising down Crenshaw.
• “Pretty Green Eyes”: produced by Jay Versace, with R&B veteran Musiq Soulchild on vocals.
• “Win or Lose”: a Cardo beat with Bay Area legend B-Legit of The Click.
• “California Dream”: a smooth duet with Jhené Aiko.
• “Flex”: with Swizz Beatz, bringing some New York energy to the Bay.

For producers, this album is a study in groove and pocket. The drums are never loud, the samples are warm and slightly dusty, and there is always room for Larry’s calm, conversational flow. It’s proof that a beat doesn’t need to be aggressive to hit.

Themes: the healthy hustle

Larry’s message hasn’t changed, but it keeps getting more mature. Who Coppin talks about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, wellness, owning property, riding bikes, waking up early and building a life with your partner. It celebrates success without flexing for the sake of it, and it never sounds preachy.

That’s why he connects with such a wide audience: it’s luxury rap for people who would rather buy a building than a chain. Okayplayer called it the perfect “unc” soundtrack for the summer, and it’s hard to disagree.

• “Go Outside Intro” (feat. Wallo267): the perfect opener, with Philadelphia’s Wallo267 helping set the mood over a warm beat.
• “The Machinist”: one of the standouts, with a darker, slightly menacing tone.
• “Casual Monday” and “Better Decisions”: classic Larry, calm and full of small life lessons.
• “Organic Motion”: the scratches and the nostalgia make it an instant favorite.
• “Flex” (feat. Swizz Beatz): one of the most energetic moments of the album.

What the critics say

• Punk Rock Journalist (4/5): praises the jazz-infused production, the live instrumentation and how the album redefines success without preaching. Its only complaint is that the second half loses a little momentum after an excellent first seven songs.
• Okayplayer: calls it cool, collected and subtly progressive, an exercise in relaxed West Coast cool with gleaming retro sounds. It notes that it’s sometimes more stylish than technically dazzling.

Verdict

Who Coppin doesn’t try to reinvent Larry June, and it doesn’t need to. It’s the most polished version of his sound so far: warm beats, great guests used in the right places and a message that feels more real every year. The second half is less essential than the first, but the whole thing plays like a perfect summer afternoon.
